Novurania SpA is a 70-year-old Italian company that began producing offset printing blankets in 1984 in Tione di Trento, developing its own technology in offset blanket production. Drawing on its expertise in technical fabric manufacturing, Novurania entered blanket production not by following most competitors with standard products, but by introducing a series of innovations. Some of these innovations were later copied by competitors, while others remain protected by proprietary know-how. Starting with underblankets, Novurania developed a relatively complete product range tested in partnership with trusted printers, including conventional and UV blankets, web blankets, coating blankets and plates, as well as blankets for metal decoration.
Novurania introduced the calendering technique as a surface coating method for blankets. This eliminated problems typically associated with spread coating, such as pinholes and solvent residues. Additionally, Novurania was the first to introduce a blanket supported by polyester film instead of cotton fabric. This patented construction, named 303 Revolution, is still regarded as state-of-the-art in coating applications. Novurania also introduced the pressure microsphere-based compressible base layer, branded as “No-Crush Under Pressure Technology.”
